Jeff recalls:

“The year was 2000. This was the second meeting between Bath County High School and Riverheads High School that year, only this time the winner would be the State Champion for single A Division 1. Bath County was living the dream season. In 1999 the Chargers struggled to win one game while losing nine, and now with a new coach and some new players including a star freshmen quarterback they are district and regional champions playing for a state title. It was not to be though, as the Chargers lost to Riverheads 26-12 that cool Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg VA. The pain of that loss would be eased the following season when the Chargers of 2001 won the State title for the second State football title in school history, beating Sussex Central 53-16. The first title came in 1995, the year WCHG went on the air.”
