A. Career Day at Marlinton Middle School - May 26, 2010.
Presented information about Allegheny Mountain Radio and our role in the community. Explained to the students the service our stations provide to the community in times of emergency, and the music, information, news and entertainment that can be heard on our stations on a daily basis. The students also learned about the difference between commercial and noncommercial stations, as well as the large role volunteers play at Allegheny Mountain Radio. Laptop and field recorder, were used to show the students the tools Allegheny Mountain Radio reporters use to gather news and cover live events in the community. The students were also shown some of the books and CDs that the Communications Cooperative has produced as part of its special projects activities.
About 20 students came to the Allegheny Mountain Radio table during the Career Day presentation.
B. Radio Club-Bath County-Bath County High School students visited the station weekly to learn about radio as a career & have hands-on instruction in radio skills.
C. Partnered with Pocahontas County High School to develop a memorial scholarship fund to help a student interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting or music.
