Stonewall Jackson’s renown is worldwide. Parallel Lines: stories from the battle for McDowell is a half hour audio docu-drama based on the events of one of his most notable victories, which happened in a little Virginia mountain village in May, 1862. From there he went on to sweep the Yankees from the Shenandoah Valley in a campaign still studied by generals today. But parallel lines is told from the perspective of the common man, not the general. It’s a “people’s history” docu-drama. Written, acted and scored by residents of the community where the events took place, parallel lines brings history to life through the stories of soldiers North and South and the local folks who were the unwitting hosts of these powerful events. Period music recorded in the 1832 church which served as a field hospital during the battle helps to move the narrative along. parallel lines – peoples’ lives, opposing armies, railroad tracks, telegraph wires are but some of the parallel lines that form an image of a time and place from long ago.
