| Coming Soon: WVPC 91.1 FM - Pendleton County |
Note: The WVPC Committee is meeting on the first Monday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the meeting room of Pendleton Community Bank in Franklin, West Virginia.
During a filing window for applications for non-commercial
educational FM stations, in 2007 and 2008, the Pocahontas
Communications Cooperative Corporation applied for construction permits
for stations in, Marlinton, West Virginia, Hillsboro West Virginia, and Franklin, West Virginia.
The tower and transmitter for WVPC will be located atop North Mountain, just off U.S. Route 33.
The station must be on the air by December 17, 2010, the date our FCC permit to construct a station expires.
To make it happen, we need your help! To get WVPC up and running will require both fundraising and community support.
Of the estimated $100,000 it will take to put the station on the air, $58,000 has been raised so far. We need to raise the remaining $42,000 by July 1, 2010.
(The coverage map shown is subject to change. The red line illustrates a preliminary estimate of the coverage area of WVPC.)

September 2008 Announcment from U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall “Having worked at my family’s radio station, WWNR in Beckley, and later
as president of WTNJ in Mount Hope, I saw first-hand the important role
public radio plays in public-service in southern West Virginia,” said
Rahall. “These additions will be music to the ears of Pocahontas and
Pendleton County residents, who are outside the reach of current public
radio service.”
Traci Mallow joins AMR team (The Recorder, May 28, 2009) "I'm excited to be a part of WVPC because I enjoy working in radio and
I like the idea of my county having its own radio station instead of
having to rely on radio from neighboring counties," she said. "I'm
looking forward to giving Pendleton County residents a place where they
can talk about the things that are important to them and get the word
out about upcoming events. I'm hoping to work with the people in
Pendleton County to build not only the station but the county up."
AMR gets federal money to bring public radio to Pocahontas and Pendleton counties (The Pocahontas Times, September 25, 2008) With the addition of the two transmitters, AMR will have to change their current motto “3 Counties, 2 States and 1 Community.” But Kinderman says it’s worth making the change. “It just seems like Bath, Highland, Pendleton and Pocahontas are a natural fit, and we really look forward to the opportunity to serve the Allegheny Highlands on both sides of the state line,” she concluded.
