Artistry, Access, and Ambition: Garth Newel’s Next Movement

I had a chance to sit down with Steve Wogaman, the Executive Director of the Garth Newel Music Center. Steve’s not just a leader—he’s a lifelong musician who trained under Menahem Pressler (MEN-uh-kem PRESS-lur) and has spent decades working at the intersection of performance and vision. From his time on stage to his leadership in Detroit’s chamber music scene, he brought a thoughtful take on how music connects people across generations and geography.

We were also joined by Katherine Taylor, Garth Newel’s new Director of Patron Engagement. She shared her hopes for building deeper connections with longtime supporters while reaching new listeners in Bath, Highland, and Pocahontas Counties.
