February 15th Pocahontas County Commission Meeting Agenda

The Pocahontas County Commission will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15th.  The meeting will be held at the Commission’s office in the courthouse in Marlinton, with the following agenda.

Following the routine opening procedures, the commissioners will hear public comments at 5:35 p.m.

At 5:40, The commissioners will receive a tourism update from Cara Rose.

There will be a Board of Review and Equalization at 5:45.

At 5:50, Amanda Smarr from Region 4 will ask the commissioners to approve application documents for the Reconnect Broadband Grant.

At 6:00 Jamie Baker from Region 4 will ask the commissioners to approve and sign the application for the Community Development Block Grant for the Thornwood Waterline Extension and, along with the Public Service District, will hold a public meeting on that project.

At 6:15 they will hold the second and final reading of the Second Amended Towing Ordinance.

At 6:30 they will receive an update regarding Pocahontas Memorial Hospital (PMH) from Andrew Bair, the hospital’s CEO.

At 6:45 the commissioners will receive a briefing from Region 4’s Cassandra Lawson regarding PMH’s Utilities Feasibility Study and about the proposed funding and matching funds scenario for that proposed project.

The commissioners will also discuss and consider approval of the following items which do not have specific times assigned to them.

  1. Final settlements and orders.
  2. Mail items and concerns.
  3. They will hear from Rita Griffith of the Day Report about the 2023 Community Corrections Grant.
  4. They will schedule the 2022 Budget Work Sessions
  5. The commissioners will discuss and consider a response to Disability Rights WV regarding accessibility at Pocahontas polling places.
  6. There will be a first reading of the Second Amended 911 Mapping and Addressing Ordinance.

Finally, the commissioners will approve invoices then adjourn the meeting.

Tim is the WVMR News Reporter. Tim is a native of Maryland who started coming to Pocahontas County in the 1970’s as a caver. He bought land on Droop Mountain off Jacox Road in 1976 and built a small house there in the early 80’s. While still working in Maryland, Tim spent much time at his place which is located on the Friars Hole Cave Preserve. Retiring in 2011 as a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland, Tim finally took the plunge and moved from Maryland to his real home on Droop Mountain. He began working as the Pocahontas County Reporter for Allegheny Mountain Radio in January of 2015.
