Pocahontas County Board of Education Agenda for the 10-1-19 Meeting

The Pocahontas County Board of Education will hold its regular meeting on Tuesday October 1st at the Green Bank Elementary-Middle School. The Local School Improvement Council Meeting will begin at 3:00 p.m., which will be immediately followed by the Board of Education meeting.

After normal opening procedures, which include approval of minutes and of the agenda, the Board will entertain any public delegations.

The School Superintendent will make his report and offer special recognitions, which will be followed by informational reports and Central Office updates by:

  1. Emmet Doolittle, the Student Representative
  2. Bob Sheets and Paul Vosteen of the Drum and Fife Corp
  3. Ruth Bland, the Testing Coordinator

The Board will than consider approval of financial reports and matters, which includes payment of vender claims and Local Purchasing Card charges; budget journal entries and budget transfers; the August Bank reconciliation; employee payrolls for September 6th and September 20; and approval of Extra Duty Pay for September. Additionally under Financial matters, the Board will consider approval to hire the thrasher Group as architects for the 2019 Green Bank Major Improvement Project.

They will consider approval of a licensing agreement between the Board of Education and Neola.

They will consider approval of travel requests from the Marlinton Elementary School fifth grade, from the Pocahontas County High School FFA and from the Green Bank Elementary-Middle School seventh grade.

They will decide on placing the Expense Reimbursement Policy on 30 day comment.

They will take up approval of an agreement for services between the Board and the Success for All Foundation, Inc.

They will consider authorizing Marty Bloss, a volunteer co-teacher of the HAM Radio Club at Green Bank Elementary-Middle School, to mount antennas on the school’s grounds.

They will consider appointing Paul Marganian as a volunteer Robotics Coach at PCHS, and Devan and Dustin Simmons as volunteer high school and middle school Archery Coaches.

They will approve of the Parent and Community Volunteers for this school year.

They will then discuss and consider approval of the Superintendent’s goals for the current school year.

The Board members will hold a Matters of the Board session prior to adjourning the meeting.

Tim is the WVMR News Reporter. Tim is a native of Maryland who started coming to Pocahontas County in the 1970’s as a caver. He bought land on Droop Mountain off Jacox Road in 1976 and built a small house there in the early 80’s. While still working in Maryland, Tim spent much time at his place which is located on the Friars Hole Cave Preserve. Retiring in 2011 as a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland, Tim finally took the plunge and moved from Maryland to his real home on Droop Mountain. He began working as the Pocahontas County Reporter for Allegheny Mountain Radio in January of 2015.
