Pocahontas County Board of Education Meeting Agenda, Monday, 10-22-18

On Monday, October 22nd at 3:30 p.m., the Pocahontas County Board of Education will hold a Local School Improvement Council Meeting at the Hillsboro Elementary School followed by its regular meeting at that school with the following agenda.

The regular meeting will begin with approval of the minutes from the September 24th Special Board of Education meeting and the October 1st regular meeting. After approving of the agenda for today’s meeting, the Board will hear comments from the public – called “Delegations.”

Next the Board will receive Mr. Beam’s Superintendent’s Report and any Special Recognitions he wishes to offer followed by informational reports from Taylor Tegtmeyer, the Student Representative to the Board of Education as well as from Joseph Adkins and Anthony Moss from the Marlinton Apostolic United Pentecostal Church.

The Board will then examine and consider approval of the following financial matters:

Payment of vender claims; budget adjustments; the bank reconciliation report for September; grant awards; and the variance explanation report for August, 2018.

The Board will then consider the following miscellaneous items:

Approval of the memorandum of understanding between Pocahontas County Board of Education and the North Central West Virginia Community Action Association, Inc regarding the Head Start Programs, retroactive to July 1, 2018 for the 2018-2019 school year.

Approval of the Board’s Notice to Performance Companies -regarding general information and request for proposals and an energy proficient project.

Approval of the following Volunteer Middle and High school Archery Coaches:

  • Rebecca Spencer

Approval of the following Volunteer Cheer leading Coaches at the Green Bank Elementary-Middle School:

Approval of the 2018-2019 school year’s community and parent volunteers.

Approval of the following trips:

  • Pocahontas County High School ProStart students to travel to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Indiana for culinary college visits, departing Pocahontas County High School on March 28 2019 and returning to Pocahontas County High School on March 29, 2019.
  • Pocahontas County High School Forestry Team to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to participate in the National Forestry Competition and FFA Convention, departing on October 23rd 2018 & returning to Pocahontas County High School on October 27th

They will then adjourn the meeting following a “matters of the Board” where each Board Member can speak to the Board and the public and announcing the date of the next meeting.

EMPLOYMENT:     PEGGY M. OWENS as Teacher of Multi-Subject (half time) at Hillsboro Elementary School, effective October 24, 2018 through the end of the 2018-2019 school year at state basic pay. Term of employment: 146 one-half days. NOTE: Position may be abolished at the end of the 2018-2019 school year. (Position is to be paid for by federal funds.)

Tim is the WVMR News Reporter. Tim is a native of Maryland who started coming to Pocahontas County in the 1970’s as a caver. He bought land on Droop Mountain off Jacox Road in 1976 and built a small house there in the early 80’s. While still working in Maryland, Tim spent much time at his place which is located on the Friars Hole Cave Preserve. Retiring in 2011 as a Lieutenant with the Anne Arundel County Police Department in Maryland, Tim finally took the plunge and moved from Maryland to his real home on Droop Mountain. He began working as the Pocahontas County Reporter for Allegheny Mountain Radio in January of 2015.
