POCAHONTAS COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Pocahontas County Warriors boys’ varsity football team lost to East Hardy 55-26 on the road on
Friday October 24 th , dropping their record to 1-7 for the season.
The Warriors boys’ varsity soccer team lost to Petersburg 3-1 at home on Wednesday October 22 nd ,
moving their record to 8-10.
The Warriors girls’ varsity soccer team played a pair of games this past week defeating Petersburg 5-0
on Wednesday October 22 nd at home and lost to Berkley Springs 1-0 on the road on Saturday October
25 th , moving their record to 11-7-1.
The Warriors girls’ volleyball team split a pair of games this past week losing to Webster County 3-1
on the road on Wednesday October 22 nd and defeated Tygarts Valley 3-1 at home on Thursday October
23 rd , moving their record to 3-17.
The Warriors boys middle school football team won their second game of the season defeating Clay
Battelle 36-12 at home on Thursday October 23 rd , moving their season record to 2-6.
BATH COUNTY SCHOOLS
Five Bath girls’ runners participated in the Class I, Region C championships at Blacksburg High
School on Tuesday October 28 th . Alli Johnson placed 30 th to lead the Chargers. Sophie Ailstock placed
31 st , Zy Coleman was 32 nd , Adrianna Miller was 33 rd and Lauren Bowling was 34 th .
The Chargers girls’ varsity volleyball team faced Eastern Montgomery in the semi-final match of the
Pioneer District tournament on Tuesday October 28 th . The Chargers lost 26-24, 26-24, 25-17,
dropping their record to 19-9 for the season. Kenley Smith had 24 digs, 13 assists and six kills, Embrie
Hazelwood had 21 digs, Georgia Watkins had nine digs, Reaghan Pritt had eight digs, Trinity Forbes
had seven kills, and Addie Lockridge had six kills. The Chargers will play in the district tournament
consolation game against Parry McCluer.
The Chargers girls’ varsity volleyball team advanced to the semi-finals of the district tournament, and
earned a berth in the Class I, Region C tournament, defeating Craig County 25-11, 25-14, 25-15 at
home on Monday October 27 th . Smith had 23 assists, 22 digs and four kills for Bath County, while
Hazelwood added 17 digs, five aces, five assists and three kills. Forbes had 10 kills and six digs,
Lockridge had 11 kills, Pritt had seven digs, three kills and three aces and Cassidee Nicely added three
kills.
The Chargers boys’ varsity football team hosted the Craig County Rockets on Friday October 24 th
coming out on the short end of the stick 28-0 dropping their record to 4-3. Hunter Kirby completed 5-
of-11 passes for 65 yards with three interceptions and rushed for 46 yards on 10 carries for Bath
County. Ethan Bryant added 49 yards on 7 carries and led the Charger defense with 20 tackles, 13 of
them being solo. Owen Perdue and Jacob Cash recovered fumbles for the Chargers.
The Chargers girls’ varsity and JV volleyball teams traveled to face Parry McCluer on Thursday
October 23 rd . The Chargers varsity lost 26-28, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22. Smith had 23 assists, 12 digs and
nine kills for the Chargers while Lockridge added 15 kills and nine digs. Hazelwood had 23 digs, Pritt
had 11 digs, Forbes had 10 kills and Watkins added nine digs. The Chargers JV team won 25-12, 25-15
finishing their season with an 8-2 record in the Pioneer, 13-3 overall. Bre Mabe served 10 aces and
had three kills, Bailey Wolfe had four digs and two assists, and Shiann Chaplin had two assists and
served two aces.
The Chargers boys JV football team went on the road to face the Craig County Rockets losing 35-14 on
Wednesday October 22 nd , dropping their record to 1-4 for the season. Cade Perdue threw a 39-yard
touchdown pass to Jeffrey Hamilton and Easton Roberts scored on a 12-yard touchdown run plus
added a two-point conversion to account for all the scoring for Bath County.
HIGHLAND COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Highland County Rams girls’ varsity volleyball team lost to Parry McCluer 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 on
the road on Monday October 27th ending their season at 7-14. The Rams had to play with most of the
players being junior varsity. Brooke Williams had two kills and three blocks, Adelaide Baxter had two
kills and five digs, Eleanor White served four aces, Amelia Good had 12 digs and Makynley Smith had
five digs.
The Rams girls’ varsity and JV volleyball teams went on the road to face Craig County on Thursday
October 23 rd . The Rams varsity lost 25-18, 27-25, 24-26, 19-25, 17-15. Brooklyn Bussard had 11 kills, 16
digs, eight assists and served four aces for Highland, Colleen Adams added 18 digs, 10 assists, nine
kills and served seven aces. Ali Veasey added 21 digs and seven kills, Emma Brower had 19 digs and
six kills, Anna Meehan had 13 digs, and Sarah Liller had nine digs. The Rams JV team won 25-23, 25-
14 ending their season at 4-4 in the Pioneer, 9-5 overall. Good had 12 digs, served 10 aces and had
three kills for the Rams, Smith had eight digs and five assists, Lalea Mullins had 10 digs and served
three aces, White had six digs and served five aces, Williams had five kills, and four aces and Hensley
Neil added seven digs.
TURNING TO AREA COLLEGES
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
The University of Virginia Cavaliers men’s football team squeaked by the North Carolina Tar Heels in
overtime winning 17-16 on the road on October 25 th moving their record to 7-1. Chandler Morris
completed 20-of-35 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown for Virginia. J’Mari Taylor added 69
yards rushing on 21 attempts and one score.
The men’s golf team participated in the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Georgia on October 24-26
finishing first out of 14 teams. Four Cavaliers finished in the top ten out of 170 golfers.
The men’s #11 ranked soccer team defeated Clemson 4-0 at home on October 25 th , improving their
record to 9-1-4. Nicholas Simmonds scored a hat trick and Marco Dos Santos added a goal for
Virginia.
The women’s #4 ranked field hockey team won a pair of games this past week defeating Louisville 20
on the road on October 24 th and defeating #11 Maryland 2-0 at home on October 28 th , improving their
record to 13-1. Against Louisville Mary Adams and Amelie Rees scored for Virginia. Against Maryland
Riley Savage and Caroline Nemec scored for UVA.
The women’s #3 ranked soccer team split a pair of home games this past week losing to #11 Florida
State 3-2 on October 23 rd and defeating Pittsburgh 2-0 on October 26 th , moving their record to 11-2-3.
Against FSU Addison Halpern and Meredith McDermott scored for Virginia. Against Pittsburgh Lisa
Godfrey scored twice for UVA.
The women’s volleyball team lost a pair of games down in Florida, losing to Florida State 3-1 on
October 24 th and losing to #15 Miami 3-1 on October 26 th , dropping their record to 10-10 for the
season.
WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s football team hosted the TCU Horned Frogs on October 25 th
losing 23-17 dropping their record to 2-6. Scotty Fox, Jr. led West Virginia by going 28-of-41 passing
for 301 yards and two touchdowns.
The men’s golf team participated in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in Alabama on October 25-
26, placing third out of 14 teams.
The men’s soccer team split a pair of games this past week, defeating Old Dominion 1-0 at home on
October 22 nd and losing to #25 Kentucky 1-0 on the road on October 26 th , moving their record to 10-3-

The women’s soccer team won a pair of home games, running their unbeaten streak to 14 straight
matches, this past week defeating Iowa State 1-0 on October 23 rd and defeating Oklahoma State 2-0
on October 26 th moving their record to 12-2-3. Against Iowa State Anna Hauer scored for WVU.
Against Oklahoma State Ava Arnold and Abbey Olexa scored for West Virginia.
The women’s volleyball team lost to Utah 3-2 at home on October 24 th , moving their record to 13-7.
JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
The James Madison University men’s soccer team lost a pair of games this past week losing to UCF 3-
2 on the road on October 22 nd and losing to #20 Georgia Southern 1-0 at home on October 26 th moving
their record to 1-10-3. Against UCF Florentino Junior and Cameron Arnold scored for James
Madison.
The women’s field hockey team won in double overtime against Kent State 3-2 on the road on October
26 th , moving their record to 10-7. Jola Ollrogge, Sydney Raguini and Ava Drexler-Amey scored for
James Madison.
The women’s soccer team defeated Georgia State 2-0 on the road on October 24 th improving their
record to 8-4-5. Selma Rajakangas and Ginny Lackey scored for JMU.
The women’s volleyball team hosted a double header against Georgia Southern on October 24-25
winning both matches 3-2 improving their record to 16-6.
VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY
The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s football team defeated the California Golden Bears 42-34 in double
overtime on October 25 th at home moving their record to 3-5. Kyron Drones led Tech completed 9-of-
18 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns. Marcellous Hawkins added 167 yards rushing on 21
attempts and Drones added 137 yards rushing on 21 attempts and two scores.
The men’s golf team participated in the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational in Alabama on October 25-
26 placing in a tie for 12 th out of 14 teams.
The men’s soccer team won a air of home games this past week defeating Winthrop 2-0 on October
22 nd and defeating California 3-2 on October 26 th improving their record to 7-3-4. Against Winthrop
Andy Sullins and Dagur Traustason scored for Virginia Tech. Against California Declan Quill scored a
hat trick for Tech.
The women’s golf team participated in the Landfall Tradition in North Carolina on October 24-26,
placing 10 th out of 18 teams.
The women’s soccer team hosted #1 Notre Dame losing 5-0 on October 23 rd dropping their record to
4-10-3 for the season.
The women’s volleyball team traveled to Florida this past week losing to #15 Miami 3-2 on October
24 th and losing to Florida State 3-0 dropping their record to 9-12.
VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE
The Virginia Military Keydets men’s football team got crunched by the Mercer Bears 62-0 on October
25 th dropping their record to 1-7.
The men’s and women’s rifle team faced the Citadel on October 25 th and Wofford on October 26 th
winning both matches.
The men’s soccer team went on the road to face Mercer losing 2-0 on October 25 th dropping their
record to 2-11-3.
The women’s soccer team split a pair of games this past week, defeating Gardner-Webb 2-0 on the
road on October 22 nd and losing to ETSU 3-0 on the road on October 26 th , moving their record to 2-17-
