Contest Rules

Allegheny Mountain Radio (“AMR”) may conduct contests from time to time in which prizes are awarded.  All contests conducted by Allegheny Mountain Radio are governed by the following rules:

General

• Application – These general rules apply to all contests unless conflicting rules are stated for specific contests, which are set out below.
• Eligibility – All persons 18 years of age and older are eligible to enter contests, with the exception of employees and volunteers of Allegheny Mountain Radio (“AMR”) and board members of Pocahontas Communications Cooperative Corporation.
• Entry deadline – the deadline to enter contests in which a prize is given away by lottery (i.e. random selection of the winner) will be stated on-air each time the contest is announced.
• How winner is selected – Unless stated differently within the rules for a specific contest (see specific contests, below), winners will be selected at random using a random number generator and then matching the resultant number against a pre-numbered list of contest entrants’ names.  The entrant whose number matches the randomly generated number will be deemed the winner.
• Notification – All entrants must provide their first and last legal names and a telephone number at which they can be contacted.  AMR will notify the winner promptly by telephone to make arrangements for the winner to claim the prize. If the winner does not answer the telephone when called, AMR will leave a message with the person who answered the telephone or on an answering device, as applicable.  If the telephone is not answered either by a person or an answering device, AMR will make two additional attempts to notify the winner within 24 hours after the winner was determined.
• Claim period – Winners shall have seven calendar days from the date of notification to claim their prizes.  The first day of the seven-day claim period shall be the day on which the winner was determined, regardless what time of day that occurred or the date on which the winner received notification of winning.
• Unclaimed prizes – All prizes not claimed within seven days from the date of award shall remain the exclusive property of AMR.
• AMR reserves the right to modify these rules at any time.

No Lies Wednesday

• Any on-air statement made by Mickey Frank Thomas that is objectively false – regardless of any intent to deceive – and subject to the exceptions that follow, will be deemed to be a “lie” for the sole purpose of administering this contest.  Exceptions include statements made during weather forecasts and content provided by a third party (such as Town Crier notices, public service announcements, yard sales, etc.)
• A listener who hears the “lie” must call AMR at (540) 468-1234 not later than 6:00 p.m. on the same Wednesday on which the “lie” was uttered and inform the person answering the telephone the nature of the “lie.”  Precise wording of the “lie” is unnecessary; a generally accurate paraphrasing of the false statement will be sufficient.
• This contest is in effect only on Wednesdays and only until the contest has been discontinued by AMR.  The date of contest discontinuation will be announced on the air and in these rules once such date is determined.
• The first eligible listener on any given Wednesday who calls AMR and substantially recounts the “lie” will be deemed the winner.
• There shall be only one winner per Wednesday.
• Individual listeners may not enter this contest more frequently than once per Wednesday.
• Mickey Frank Thomas will donate ten dollars to AMR in the name of the winner.  This donation shall be deemed the “prize” for purposes of this contest.
• The winner will be required to give AMR his/her first and last legal name and mailing address so that AMR may mail an acknowledgment of the prize to the winner.  Refusal to provide this information will nullify award of the prize.
• The winner’s first name will be announced over the air.

Three Week, No Repeat

• Mickey Frank Thomas will not play the same song by the same artist within any three-week period (21 calendar days) during the program named “The Afternoon Delight,” which airs on AMR from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
• Any eligible listener who can identify a song that Mickey Frank Thomas played in violation of the above statement will be deemed the winner of this contest.
• Mickey Frank Thomas will donate to AMR a designated amount of money (the “fund”) in the winner’s name.  This donation shall be deemed the “prize” for purposes of this contest.
• The fund will be no less than ten dollars.  For each calendar week in which there is no winner, Mickey Frank Thomas will add ten dollars to the fund.  Once a winner is identified and the fund is donated to AMR, Mickey Frank Thomas will reseed the fund with ten dollars.  
• All songs played on The Afternoon Delight and the approximate times at which they were played will be recorded on Spinitron.com and can be viewed by accessing this link: https://spinitron.com/AMR/show/87387/The-Afternoon-Delight.  This website is deemed to be the official record of when songs were played on The Afternoon Delight.
• The first person to call AMR at (540) 468-1234 within 24 hours of the repeated song having been played, and who also identifies that song correctly, will be deemed the winner.  
• If two people call AMR at the same time and AMR staff are unable to determine which caller was the first to identify the song correctly, then the callers will deemed co-winners and one-half the fund will be donated in each caller’s name.
• Songs played by substitute DJs during The Afternoon Delight are excluded from this contest and of no effect.
• Individual listeners may not enter this contest more frequently than once per day.
• This contest is in effect until it has been discontinued by AMR.  The date of contest discontinuation will be announced on the air and in these rules once such date is determined.
• The winner will be required to give AMR his/her first and last legal name and mailing address so that AMR may mail an acknowledgment of the prize to the winner.  Refusal to provide this information will nullify award of the prize.
• The winner’s first name will be announced over the air.

Take a Shot at Scott

• The General Rules listed above apply to this contest as well as the following.
• Listeners will be invited to call the WVLS contest line at (540) 468-1897 to play.
• Once an eligible listener has called the contest line, Mickey Frank Thomas will ask News Director, WVLS Station Coordinator and DJ Extraordinaire Scott Smith (or substitute in the event of Scott’s unavailability) a series of five questions. Each question can be answered with a specific quantity (i.e., number, date, amount, etc.)
• After each question, Mickey Frank Thomas will ask the caller if the correct answer to the question is higher or lower, earlier or later, more or less, etc. than the answer given by Scott.
• The caller will be given five seconds to answer.
• If the caller answers three or more questions correctly, the caller will be deemed the winner. If the caller fails to answer three or more questions correctly, Scott will be deemed the winner.
• If the caller is the winner, Mickey Frank Thomas will donate the “Take a Shot at Scott Fund” to Allegheny Mountain Radio in the caller’s name.
• If Scott is the winner, Mickey Frank Thomas will add $10.00 to “Take a Shot at Scott Fund.”
• Mickey Frank Thomas reserves the right to discard a question that has been asked if Mickey Frank Thomas deems the questions problematic for any reason.
• An individual person may win this contest only once per calendar month.
• This contest is in effect until it has been discontinued by AMR.  The date of contest discontinuation will be announced on the air and in these rules once such date is determined.
• The winner will be required to give AMR his/her first and last legal name and mailing address.  Refusal to provide this information will nullify award of the prize.
• The caller’s first name will be announced over the air.

Mel’s Mixes

• Melodie, the host of Mel’s Mixes, will invite listeners to call into her program (Mel’s Mixes) and to “like” the Mel’s Mixes Facebook page and to “share” her posts on that page.
• Melodie will enter each call-in listener’s name once by writing that listener’s name on a pre-numbered list.
• Melodie will enter the name of each person who “liked” the Mel’s Mixes Facebook page once on the same pre-numbered list.
• Melodie will enter the name of each person who “shared” a post on Mel’s Mixes Facebook page once on the same pre-numbered list.
• A person, therefore, can have his/her name entered more than once on the pre-numbered list, but no more often than once per event (i.e., call-in to the program, like the Facebook page, share a post).
• At the time of the drawing, Melodie will use a random number generator to generate a number within the range of numbered entries on the list.
• The name corresponding to the generated number will be deemed the winner.
• Melodie will announce on the air the deadline to enter her drawing.
• Prior to the drawing, Melodie will inform listeners on the air as to the fair market value of the prize(s).
