POCAHONTAS COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Pocahontas County Warriors boys’ varsity football team won their third game of the season and second in a row, on Friday Nov. 8th defeating Webster County 20-0 in an away match-up. The Warriors ended their season at 3-7. Austin Price had a big night on defense for Pocahontas with two interceptions and for good measure added a rushing touchdown. Devon Burgess recorded a 41-yard touchdown reception and Logan Keatley rushed for a touchdown.
BATH COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Bath County Chargers boys’ varsity football team remained undefeated Friday Nov 8th defeating Narrows 49-12 at Narrows. This moved the Chargers to 4-0 in the Pioneer District, 9-0 for the season earning them a slot in the Class I, Region C playoffs. Wyatt Campbell and Ethan Bryant both rushed for three touchdowns to lead Bath County. Campbell scored on runs of 4, 9 and 5 yards while Bryant scored on runs of 4, 2, and 7 yards. Luke Turner joined the TD parade adding a 28-yard touchdown. Campbell rushed for 137 yards on 22 carries, Bryant rushed for 98 yards on 19 carries and Turner ran for 40 yards on four tries. Campbell passed for 100 yards going 4-of-9. Braiden Mabe led the Chargers’ defense with five tackles, including three for a loss, blocking an extra point and a punt, and both Isaac Ingram and A.J. Woodsen had interceptions.
TURNING TO AREA COLLEGES
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
The Univerirty of Virginia Cavaliers men’s football team defeated #19 Wake Forest 24-19 on Nov. 9th at home improving their record to 5-4.
The men’s basketball team started their season defeating Campbell 65-56 at home on Nov. 6th. Virginia continued their winning ways defeating Coppin State 62-45 on Nov. 11th at home moving their record to 2-0.
The women’s basketball team fell to record to 1-1 losing to #10 Oklahoma on the road Nov. 8th 95-51.
WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s football team got back on the winning track beating Cincinnati 31-24 in an away game on Nov. 9th moving their record to 5-4.
The men’s basketball team won their second game of the season defeating UMass 75-69 at home on Nov. 8th moving their record to 2-0.
The women’s basketball team defeated Niagara 110-41 on Nov. 9th. The Lady Mountaineers notched their third win of the season beating Pitt 82-54 at home on Nov. 12th, moving their record to 3-0.
JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
The Dukes of James Madison men’s football team won their second game in a row defeating Georgia State 38-7 on Nov. 9th improving their record to 7-2.
The men’s basketball team lost to Norfolk State 83-68 in an away game on Nov. 9th. On Nov. 12th James Madison played Mary Baldwin at home, winning 100-52, moving their record to 2-1.
The women’s basketball team won two home games this past week, defeating Loyola Maryland 85-54 on Nov. 7th and defeating ECU 57-51 on Nov. 10th, to remain undefeated at 3-0.
VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY
The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s football team lost their second game in a row losing to #19 Clemson 24-14 at home on Nov. 9th dropping their record to 5-5.
The men’s basketball team remained undefeated at 3-0 after defeating USC Upstate 93-74 at home on Nov. 8th and then defeating Winthrop 58-52 at home on Nov. 11th.
The women’s basketball team fell to Iowa 71-52 in the Ally Tip-Off in Salem, VA on Nov. 10th dropping their record to 1-1.
VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE
The Virginia Military Keydets men’s football team lost to #10 Mercer 34-0 in a home match-up on Nov. 9th dropping their record to 1-9.
The men’s basketball team remained undefeated at 3-0 after taking down Christendom 102-56 in a home game on Nov. 12th. Virginia Military also defeated Bellarmine 76-71 in an away game on Nov. 9th.
