BATH COUNTY SCHOOLS
The Bath County Chargers boys’ varsity football team remained undefeated at 10-0 as they advanced in the Class 1, Region C playoffs defeating Fort Chiswell 42-6 at home on Friday Nov. 15th. Wyatt Campbell ran for four touchdowns and threw a TD pass to Braiden Mabe enabling him to pass coach Jake Phillips’ all-time touchdown record at Bath County. Campbell rushed for 157 yards on 16 carries and completed 7-of-15 passes for another 49 yards. Luke Turner also scored a rushing touchdown with Ethan Bryant rushing for 58 yards. Mabe was also busy playing defense for the Chargers as he had nine tackles, including one for a loss, a sack, forced fumble, pass break-up and a blocked extra point. Bryant had eight tackles and A.J. St. Clair added a blocked punt.

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA
The Virginia Cavaliers men’s football team faced #8 Notre Dame in South Bend, IN on Nov. 16th losing 35-14 dropping their record to 5-5. The Cavaliers were led by Tony Muskett who scored two rushing touchdowns. The Cavaliers committed five turnovers.
The men’s basketball team raised their record to 3-0 after beating Villanova 70-60 in the Hall of Fame Series on Nov. 15th in Baltimore, MD. Isaac McKneely led Virginia with 23 points while Andrew Rohde added 13 and Jacob Cofie had 12.
The women’s basketball team played LaSalle on Nov. 17th winning 76-47 at home, improving their record to 3-1. Five Virginia players scored in double figures led by Kymora Johnson with 20 points. Latasha Lattimore added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
The men’s soccer team lost to Wake Forest in the quarterfinals of the ACC Soccer Tournament on Nov. 14th losing 5-1 dropping their record to 10-6-3. Triton Beauvois scored the lone goal for Virginia.
The women’s field hockey team defeated Michigan 2-1 on Nov. 15th in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship. Suze Leemans and Dani Mendez-Trendler scored for Virginia. In the second round of the NCAA tournament on Nov. 17th the Cavaliers lost to Northwestern in overtime 3-2, ending their season with a 14-5 record. Leemans and Mendez-Trendler scored goals for Virginia.
The men’s and women’s cross-country teams took part in the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 15th in South Carolina. The men placed first out of 33 teams while the women finished second out of 34 teams. For the men Gary Martin and Will Anthony placed 8th and 9th individually to lead the Cavaliers. The UVA women were led by Margot Appleton and Jenny Schilling who placed 5th and 6th individually.
In the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament the UVA women defeated Princeton 2-1 at home on Nov. 15th moving their record to 13-5. Yuna McCormack and Maggie Cagle scored for the Cavaliers.
The women’s volleyball team played a pair of games out in California losing to #7 Stanford 3-0 on Nov. 14th and defeating Cal 3-1 on Nov. 15th, moving their record to 20-7.
WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
The West Virginia Mountaineers men’s football team lost a high scoring affair to Baylor 49-35 on Nov. 16th at home dropping their record to 5-5 for the season. Garrett Greene led the Mountaineers offense completing 19-of-39 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 129 yards of rushing on 22 carries and two more touchdowns.
The men’s basketball team lost to Pitt 86-62 in an away game on Nov. 15th dropping their record to 2-1. Jonathan Powell scored 16 points and Javon Small added 12 more to lead the Mountaineers.
The #10 men’s soccer team won the regular season title earlier this month and the Sun Belt Championship tournament title on Nov. 17th defeating Marshall 0-0 on penalty kicks. The Mountaineers also defeated Kentucky 2-1 on Nov. 13th in a previous game in the tournament. West Virginia moved their record to 12-1-7. Against Kentucky Sergio Ors Navarro and Carlos Hernando scored goals for West Virginia.
The men’s wrestling team remained undefeated after beating Rider in New Jersey 31-9 on Nov. 14th. Jace Schafer, Jett Strickenberger, Jordan Titus, Ty Watters, Peyton Hall, Austin Cooley, and Michael Wolfgram picked up victories for West Virginia. On Nov. 16th the men participated in the NWCA All-Star Classic in Pennsylvania. Mountaineer’s Hall secured a win at 165 pounds and Watters lost in his match at 149 pounds.
The women’s basketball team remained undefeated at 5-0 winning a pair of home games this past week. The Lady Mountaineers beat Texas A&M 83-62 on Nov. 15th and took care of business defeating Bowling Green 78-47 on Nov. 19th. Against Bowling Green three Mountaineers scored in double figures led by Jordan Harrison with 20 points. Against Texas A&M three Mountaineers scored double figures led by J.J. Quinerly with 27 points and Kylee Blacksten with 17.
The women’s cross-country team participated in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships on Nov. 15th in Pennsylvania. The Lady Mountaineers won the team title with Ceili McCabe and Joy Naukot placing first and sixth individually. The women placed three more runners to finish out the top 13.
The women’s soccer team lost to Kentucky 1-1 on penalty kicks in the second of two overtimes in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament on Nov. 15th. Olivia Shertzer scored the lone goal for West Virginia in regulation. West Virginia ended their season at 12-5-3.
The women’s volleyball team lost a pair of games this past week at home losing to #9 Arizona State 3-0 on Nov. 14th and losing to Arizona 3-0 on Nov. 17th. The Lady Mountaineers record stands at 8-17.
JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY
The James Madison Dukes men’s football team beat Old Dominion 35-32 in a nail-biter in an away game on Nov. 16th, moving their record to 8-2. Alonza Barnett III led James Madison by completing 18-of-26 passes for 192 yards and rushed for 70 yards on 13 carries, scoring two touchdowns. George Pettaway added 82 yards of rushing and Wayne Knight had a rushing touchdown.
The men’s basketball team lost to Towson 67-63 in an away game on Nov. 16th, dropping their record to 2-2 for the season. Mark Freeman scored 20 points and Xavier Brown added 16 to lead James Madison. The Dukes had five guys with at least five rebounds.
The men’s soccer team lost to Marshall 1-0 in the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Nov. 13th, ending their season at 8-5-6.
The women’s basketball team split a pair of games this past week losing to #6 Notre Dame 92-46 on Nov. 13th in an away contest then defeated Gardner-Webb 102-69 at home on Nov. 17th moving their record to 4-1. Kseniia Kozlova led James Madison with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Notre Dame. Peyton McDaniel scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds with Ro Scott scoring 22 points to lead the JMU attack against Gardner-Webb.
The women’s soccer team lost to Ohio State 4-1 in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament on Nov. 15th ending their season at 12-4-5. Amanda Attanasi scored the lone goal for the Dukes.
The women’s volleyball team lost a double-header to Texas State 3-1, 3-0 at Texas State on Nov. 14-15 dropping their record to 11-15.
VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY
The Virginia Tech Hokies men’s basketball team got crunched by Penn State 86-64 on Nov. 15th as part of the Hall of Fame series in Baltimore, MD. The Hokies fell to 3-1 for the season. Mylyjael Poteat scored 15 points to lead Virginia Tech.
The men’s and women’s cross-country teams participated in the NCAA Southeast Regional in South Carolina on Nov. 15th. The men placed fourth out of 33 teams, and the women placed ninth out of 34 teams. For the men George Couttie placed first individually to lead the Hokies. Sharon Chepchirchir placed in 16th place individually to lead the Lady Hokies.
The men’s wrestling team hosted #8 Missouri in a match on Nov. 15th winning 23-10 moving their record to 2-0.
The women’s basketball team hosted three games over the past week defeating UNC Asheville 85-62 on Nov. 13th, defeating Coppin State 86-51 on Nov. 16th and defeating Rutgers 91-80 on Nov. 19th improving their record to 4-1. Carleigh Wenzel led the Hokies with 25 points and Matilda Ekh added 13 against UNC Asheville. Against Coppin State Rose Micheaux led Virginia Tech with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Varys Baker added 13 points. Against Rutgers Wenzel led Virgina Tech with 19 points, Micheaux added 16 points and 17 rebounds, and Samyha Suffren chipped in with 16 points.
In the first round of the NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament Virginia Tech defeated Tennessee 2-1 on Nov. 15th at home. Anna Weir and Natalie Mitchell scored one goal apiece for the Hokies.
The women’s volleyball team lost a couple of games out on the road losing to Cal 3-0 on Nov. 14th and losing to #7 Stanford 3-0 on Nov. 15th dropping their record to 7-19.
VIRGINIA MILITARY INSTITUTE
The Virginia Military Keydets men’s football team got involved in a shoot-out with Western Carolina coming out on the losing end 58-28 in an away game on Nov. 16th. VMI fell to 1-10 for the season. JoJo Crump completed 9-of-14 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown while Hunter Rice rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries scoring two touchdowns to lead the Keydets.
The men’s basketball team participated in the Greenbrier Tip-Off on Nov. 15-16. In the first game VMI was nudged by Tennessee Tech 72-71 and beat Charleston Southern in the consolation game 80-69. Augustinas Kiudulas led VMI with 21 points and 12 rebounds against Tennessee Tech. Kiudulas led VMI in scoring in the consolation game with 22 points with Tan Yildizoglu adding 17 points. Rickey Bradley, Jr, and T.J. Johnson chipped in with 11 each. VMI faced Pittsburgh on Nov. 18th in Pittsburgh, PA losing 93-48 dropping their record to 4-2. Virginia Military was led by Linus Holmstrom with 15 points and T.J. Johnson with 12 points.
The men’s and women’s rifle team hosted #2 Georgia Southern on Nov. 16th with the VMI men finishing in second place and the women taking third.
The men’s wrestling team participated in the Marymount Quad on Nov. 17th. The Keydets squared up against Marymount University, winning 46-6 and Morgan State University, winning 32-9, improving their record to 3-1. Against Marymount University Dyson Dunham, Wayne Rold, Patrick Jordon, Eric Doran, Ryan Vigil, Logan Chambers, Toby Schoffstall and Josh Evans picked up wins for VMI. Against Morgan State Dunham, Phoenix Alyea, Jordon, Doran, Vigil, Braxton Lewis, Schoffstall and Evans earned wins for VMI.
The men’s and women’s cross-country teams participated in the NCAA Southeast Regional on Nov. 15th in South Carolina. The VMI men placed 26th overall out of 33 schools with Kevin Shank leading the way. The VMI women 33rd overall out of 34 teams led by Jillian Sisk.
