Second Wind Calendar Of Events For March

Whether the beginning of March is more like a lion or lamb is yet to be determined, but either way won’t stop the Highland County Second Wind program from offering a full slate of events during the month, with a variety of health, shopping and social opportunities for older area residents.
Shopping trips include grocery runs to Harrisonburg on Tuesday, March 7th and to Franklin, along with lunch at the Franklin Bowling alley will on Tuesday the 21st. These trips leave the Highland Library at 9:30 and 10:00 am respectively, or home pick-up is available.
If your shopping trips cause those pounds to pack on, weight management support group meetings will be held from 5:00 – 6:00 pm every Wednesday of the month at The Highland Medical Center.
Deborah Lambert and Derek Simmons provide assistance with stubborn electronic devices during computer support classes held at the Highland Public Library from 1:00 – 3:00 pm on Wednesday, March 8th and Tuesday, March 14th and 28th from 10:00 am til Noon.

There are also a number of other activities of interest occurring throughout the month that are not VPAS sponsored, including Zumba, art and yoga classes.
For more information or to register for any of these activities, or to get on the e-mail distribution list for monthly calendars, contact VPAS Senior Services Coordinator Harmony Leonard at 540-468-2178 or email harmony@vpas.info.

Scott Smith

Scott is the News Director for Allegheny Mountain Radio and Station Coordinator and News Reporter for WVLS. Scott’s family has deep roots in Highland County. While he did not grow up here, he spent as much time as possible on the family farm, and eventually moved to Highland to continue the tradition, which he still pursues with his cousin. Unfortunately, farming doesn’t pay all the bills, so he has taken other jobs to support his farming hobby, including pressman/writer for The Recorder, and Ag Projects Coordinator for The Highland Center. He lives in Hightown with wife Michelle and son Ethan, and also is a member of the boards of the Highland-Bath Farm Bureau , Highland Chamber of Commerce and Highland Sheep and Wool Association. In his spare time, he wishes he had more spare time, especially to ride his prized Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
