2024 Highland County Fair

The 73rd Annual Highland County Fair kicks off next week, and we spoke to one of the Fair Board members for more details.
“I’m Holli Mcveigh, I’m the Secretary on the Highland County Fair Board. The Fair is August 24th, that’s Saturday, we have a horse show, and then it’s Wednesday, August 28th through Saturday, August 31st.”
Will we be seeing all the normal crowd pleasing events?
“Yeah, absolutely. We have everyone’s fan favorites – the parade starts at 6:00 on Wednesday; we have our Cressmen gospel music 4:00 on Thursday, and then starting at 7:00, we have the Demolition Derby.”
“On Saturday, we have the dog show at 9:00 am Bluegrass at 11:00. Please come and support the FFA and 4-H for their livestock sale. That’ll be at 2:00. Of course, we have the Truck and Tractor Pull starting at 5:00, and Saturday night show ends off with a great fireworks display at 10:00 pm. It’s gonna be a jam packed day full of fun.”
Is there anything new to see?
“Absolutely, we always try to get in some new events and entertainers. So new this year, we have Jack and Davis Reid. They are local country music singers, I think they do a little bit of everything, they’ll be at 7:30 on Wednesday. We also have another local artist, Cameron Simmons, he’ll be singing some of your country favorites, he’s on Saturday at 3:00.
“And one of the bigger events we have that’s new is the Bull Ride Mania Rodeo. They’ll have bull riding, barrel racing and stuff for the kids. They have youth mutton busting, I know a lot of people were looking forward to that, and they have stick horse racing for the kids. That’ll be at 7:00 on Friday, something you don’t want to miss.”
“So we have some roaming acts at the Fair this year. We have Sky High Skyler, who is a stilt walker, and I think he throws some other talents in there as well. And we also have Cowgirl Circus. So if you want to learn how to rope and ride, she’ll be roaming the grounds, and both of those will be there every day of the Fair in the afternoons.”
Last year, there were some issues with some food vendors not being able to use their facilities – has this been taken care of?
“Yes, we have brand new hood exhaust systems so every booth is safe for everyone. We’ll have french fries, onion rings, chicken patties, all the fan favorites.”
And how much does it cost?
“Daily ticket is $15, ages 14 and under are free. And we have season tickets again this year. $30, that gets you in all four days.”
