Duck Derby and Street Dance for fun in Hot Springs
(Bugle intro.)
At the beginning of this month, Always Dreaming won in Louisville Kentucky at Churchill Downs; and last weekend Cloud Computing inched past Classic Empire to claim the Preakness at Pimlico in Maryland. This weekend, on Saturday evening, it’s time to venture out, and watch some little yellow ducks swoop down the rushing creek in Hot Springs behind the post office and the bank. The fourth annual Duck Derby, and Dance, is raising money for the Hot Springs Rescue Squad’s training programs.
Mike Spurgeon, a squad member explained a few more things for our listeners.
To enter this good-natured competition, simply buy a duck for five dollars, or more than one if you like.
There may be some left for sale on race day, but so far the field is already over four hundred. The first place winner, the little yellow duck that gets to the bridge by the dry cleaners first, will get three hundred dollars; second prize is two-hundred, and third is one hundred dollars. Race goers can start arriving around six or six thirty, and post time is at seven. DJ Willie will play a great mix of music for dancers of all ages. The street dance part of the evening is seven dollars for adults and children twelve and under for two dollars and fifty cents. To join in a square dancing workshop, plan to be there by 6:15. After the Derby, dancing and dining will continue. If you’d like to buy a duck, contact any Hot Springs Rescue Squad member, or call 839-3312. The event will be held rain or shine. It’s good weather for ducks.
