Little Swiss Fund Grant Recipients Named
In a press release dated November 18th, The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County announced this week that its Little Swiss Fund Grants Committee met to review applications for the second annual grant award process. The Little Swiss Fund is a permanently endowed fund, whose monies are invested, and provide an annual distribution to benefit the Highland County nonprofit community. The distribution is 4% of a five-year average of the fund’s balance. This year’s grants will provide a total of $136,855 to benefit the Highland County community.
Applications from thirteen Highland County nonprofit organizations were received this year, and all were approved for funding.
Receiving grants for general operating support were:
- Allegheny Mountain Institute – $10,000
- Dare to Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship Center – $5,000
- Highland’s Children House – $10,549.60
- The Highland County Fair Association – $8,000
- The Highland Center – $15,000
Elegius Mini Equine Center received $5,000 for the youth
employment program; the Highland County Arts Council received $2,000 for a training program for technicians; the Highland County Humane Society received $5,000 for community pet retention and foster care; the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department received $15,123.15 for a new pumper/tanker truck, and the Volunteer rescue Squad received $29,182.25 for the installation of an automatic stretcher loading system; the Highland Historical Society received $2,000 for its Collections Preservation Project; the Highland Medical center received $28,000 for equipment for medical, dental and emergent care; and McDowell Presbyterian Church received $2,000 for restoration of the safety and integrity of the church.
