Highland County Recreation Commission Offering Full Slate of Summer Activities

Hello, I am Jessy Wilfong, the Highland County Recreation Director.  I’m excited to announce that we have a full summer schedule ready to release.  With the lift of the COVID restrictions, with the capacities, we are able to start doing a lot more.

We have started basketball open gym, that’s on Sundays from 4 to 6 pm at the Highland High School gym.

We have volleyball open gym on Sundays from 6 to 8pm and that’s at the Highland Elementary School gym.

Our weight room will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all members again with no appointment necessary, beginning May 28 as long as the capacity restrictions are still lifted as said.  For anyone that would like to become a member, we are offering a special for $75 for the remainder of the year and we’ll start that on June 1.  So anyone that wants to join can have a membership from June 1 through the end of the year for $75.

Our co-ed softball is getting ready to begin.  Registration is still open if anyone would like to participate.  Games will begin on June 10.  We play every Thursday night at the ballfield starting at 6:00 in Monterey.

And the most exciting news is the pool this year, we get to open.  So we’re going to do a soft opening on June 4.  We will be open June 4, 5 and 6.  And then with the lifeguards being in school, they will go back to school on Monday and then we will open for the season on June 11.  We are still hiring for lifeguards and kitchen staff if anyone is interested, please see me.

Family Fun Nights are being offered again this year.  Those are free for everyone, that’s Friday nights from 6 to 9pm at the pool.  The theme schedule is going to be released here soon.  We’re collaborating with the library for most of those.

We will still have lap swim Monday through Thursday from 6 to 7pm.  The Splash Class and Water Aerobics schedule will be announced here soon, the same goes for swimming lessons.

And then we also have the Campfire Night scheduled for July 17.  Mountain Mama will take place on August 7.  And we have a youth archery program in the planning process, we’re hoping to have that up and running more towards the fall.

For more information on any of the Highland County Recreation Commission activities you can see our website www.highlandcountyrecreation.org.  You can stop by the pool and see me in person, you can also give me a call at the pool, the number is 540-468-3866.  You can also email me director@highlandcountyrecreation.org.
