A Conversation With The Christmas Mother
Working at Allegheny Mountain Radio has afforded me the opportunity to interview musicians, politicians, civil rights activists and a number of community leaders who use their time and energy to help people through the storms of life. The 2021 Bath County Christmas Mother exemplifies this.
The Bath County Christmas Mother Program offers holiday food, gifts, and fuel assistance during Christmas. A new Christmas Mother is appointed every fall. The program is a volunteer organization that prioritizes applicants’ needs and relies on donations from individuals, businesses, schools, county agencies, civic and church organizations.
This isn’t a country club The Christmas Mother is a meritocracy; you can’t buy your way into this sorority. Admission is earned through sweat equity, sacrifice and that Hesid Love talked about it the 25th Chapter of Saint Matthew. How do you treat the widowed the orphaned the downtrodden and the outcast? For the 29 women who have been named Christmas Mother the answer is easy: Love them!
The following is a conversation I had with the 2021, Bath County Christmas Mother, Mrs. Missy Smith Ailstock. She shared her thoughts on faith, family and some of her personal wisdom with the AMR family.
