Highland Man Injured In Shooting Incident

During the evening of Friday, March 11th, a shooting incident occurred in Highland County, and the following is an official statement from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office.

“A Highland County man was shot in the chest Friday night in the 3000 block of Mill Gap Road. He is believed to be in stable condition.

According to statements given to authorities, a 47-year-old man from Monterey, Va., was on his property along the 100 block of Mill Gap Road when the driver of a Jeep yelled obscenities at him as it drove by.  The man then got into his GMC van and pursued the Jeep.  Near the 3000 block of Mill Gap Road, the Jeep’s driver, a 22-year-old man from Mineral, Va., fired a round at the GMC van. The Jeep continued on its way and was later stopped in West Virginia by the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office. The driver and an adult female were detained without incident. A handgun was recovered from the Jeep.

The driver of the van suffered from a single gunshot wound to the chest, and he was flown to UVA Medical Center by AirCare.
