New River Accepting Applications For Practical Nursing Program
Marlinton, WV – There’s one career that’s always been in demand and offers a wide variety of specialties – nursing. And if you’ve got a compassionate personality and a desire to serve your fellow man, this may be just the opportunity you’ve been looking for.
New River Community and Technical Collge is now accepting applications for its School of Practical Nursing. The classes for the 2012-2013 Pocahontas cohort won’t begin until August of 2012, but applicants may need to take prerequisite courses during the spring semester that begins January 17th.
Students in the program can expect a rigorous one year certificate program designed to prepare them to be Licensed Practical Nurses in a variety of healthcare settings. The curriculum includes both classroom and clinical experience as well as classes in pharmacology and nutrition. It’s also designed to allow students to progress to more advanced studies and degrees.
Joyce Egnor, RN and program director for New River’s Allied Health Division says graduates of the program have an excellent track record when it comes to passing the licensing exam on their first attempt. The program is also fully accredited by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses.
Pocahontas County cohort classes are taught at Pocahontas County HS and at New River’s Greenbrier campus in Lewisburg. Prerequisite classes required for admission include English 101, Math 101 or higher with Intermediate Algebra preferred, and Anatomy and Physiology I and II.
English and Math 101 classes will also be offered at the One Room University in Marlinton during the spring semester. Contact Elaine Diller at 304-799-4950 for more information about the ORU classes.
Students must earn at least a C in all prerequisite courses. For more information about the Nursing program call Tina Bryant at 304-883-2481 or by email at tbryant@newriver.edu.
Applications will be accepted through the end of January.
