Second Suspect Charged In Abuse Of Infant Girl
A Bluegrass woman has become the second person to face felony child abuse charges in the February wounding of an infant girl, according to Highland County Sheriff Bob Kelly.
The suspect, identified in court records as Lajetta Allen, 39, of Bluegrass, was arrested March 13. She was charged with two felony counts of malicious wounding and two felony counts of abuse and neglect of a child causing serious injury.
Allen’s arrest follows the March 5th arrest of Timothy Scott Windett, 32, of Franklin, West Virginia. Windett faces the same charges as Allen. Both are being held without bond and their next court dates are set for March 26.
Investigators have said the nature of the infant’s injuries, which allegedly occurred between Feb. 1 and Feb. 22, merited the felony charges.
The arrests follow an investigation of a reported child abuse complaint on Feb. 22. After the child was examined by investigators, she underwent medical exams at two local hospitals. Doctors termed the injures “a result of abuse” that occurred “on at least two separate occasions,” court records state.
Kelly declined to give further details on the child’s current whereabouts, but said she is not hospitalized and is in a safe location.
