06-05-25 Dare To Dream Pt 3 – Tim Elliot

In Parts 1 and 2 of this story, we learned about Dare To Dream Therapeutic Horsemanship Center. This is their 10th anniversary in operation, and they are celebrating with an event at The Barn at The Monterey Inn on Friday, June 6th from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, with live music, an auction, a raffle, and more. The live music will be provided by Tim Elliot, who I spoke with to learn more.

“I’m a touring country artist. I’ve been on the road now for about 10 years as a touring artist. We’ve had some pretty decent radio success, based out of Northwestern North Carolina, around the Boone North Carolina area, but we travel all over the country, from Canada to South Florida, just all over the place, playing shows with different artists and headline shows, just trying to make things happen.”

“I started playing music when I was a kid, playing bluegrass and bluegrass gospel. We would go around to churches back in North Carolina, and that’s kind of where it all got started from, and from there, somehow found its way into honky tonks. And started writing and recording, and, you know, just been beating the roads up with a touring band for about solid now, for 10 years. I think 2015 is from where I actually signed our deal with Sony. It’s been an experience.

“It’s just a Tim Elliot or Tim Elliot. It’s not really the Tim Elliot band, it’s just my name. And then I always try to keep the best players that I could keep with me, which the guys are which are with me now I’ve been with me for about four years, really good players, solid players from all walks of life, from the professional side of things to retail. And I’m blessed to have such a good group of guys around.”

He has worked with an impressive list of artists.

“We are with Rascal Flatts, actually, next Thursday at Carolina Country Music Festival, so I’m sure that’ll be exciting. I’ve never got to work with those guys, but we’ve worked with Darius Rucker on a couple different shows. Tracy Lawrence has always been really, really good to work with – friends with Marty Raven from Shenandoah, worked with those guys on a couple different shows. Everybody from Kane Brown to just a ton of different shows. We were actually in Wisconsin a few months ago with Josh Turner, just a ton of different artists, and everyone’s always been real pleasant to work with. I don’t have any real horror stories, luckily, about any of the superstar guys, they’ve always been really, really good to work with.”

I asked what folks can expect to hear Friday.

“A typical set list for us will literally go from Hank Williams Sr. to Teddy Swims. It is a huge variety of music. Obviously a huge focus on country. I’m a country artist, I sing country, that’s what my blood, sweat and tears has always been in country. But I love classic stuff, from Conway Twitty and Merle Haggard Waylon Jennings and as far back as Jimmy Rogers and Hank Williams Sr.”

I love all that stuff, but I also like to mix it up too. So you’re going to hear some Stevie Wonder, you’re going to hear some Teddy Swims. I want everyone who comes to a show to leave thinking, ‘Wow, that’s really cool, that I heard a song that I like.’ And some folks don’t like country, some folks don’t listen to country that much, so I like to drop in some rock and some pop and stuff in there too. It’s just a very crowd, interactive, fun show.”

“So you do take requests, then.”

“Absolutely – if they’re attached to $100 bill, we’ll sing about anything you want to.”

(Laughter) We take requests, for sure.”

I asked how he came to be involved.

“We play up in Covington once a year. I just love the folks, we play at the Jackson River Complex, at the amphitheater out there, and Allen and all the folks in the city of Covington, I just absolutely think the world of those folks. We’ve got a lot of fans up around that area.”

“And then we were actually at a winery down in Roxboro, North Carolina, and some of the folks from up there saw us and connected some dots, and it just so happened that we were going to be near the area. We’re in Myrtle Beach with Rascal Flatts on Thursday, and then we’re headed your way right after the Rascal Flatts show. So it’s not exactly perfect routing, but I think it’s going to be one where those folks at Dare To Dream do a lot of good work, so I’m excited to be part of the program this year.”

Folks can learn more about Tim at….
