Pocahontas County Sheriff Announces Sheriffs Dept Auxiliary Force Advisory Board
Marlinton, WV – Pocahontas County Sheriff David Jonese sees the County Sheriffs Dept Auxiliary Force as a group that can serve as a liaison between his dept and the general public. On March 3rd, the Sheriff announced the members of the Citizens Advisory Board, a group who will provide guidance, support and council to the Auxiliary volunteers.
The members of the Advisory Board are Jamie Walker, JL Clifton, Emery Grimes, Dotty Kellison, CC Lester, Fred Burns, Charlie Sheets, Charles Cornell, Dennis Driscoll, Margaret Worth, Reid Mitchell, Pam Pritt, Ruth Bland and Jimmy Ryder.
The Auxiliary program started about six months after Sheriff Jonese took office. Up until now, the Auxiliary members have done offender transports to the regional jail, provided a security presence at ball games, and traffic control at parades. But the Auxiliary member Joel Srodes says they could do so much more, such as a neighborhood watch in Marlinton, riding the school bus with sports teams for away games, and as a law enforcement presence in the halls of the courthouse for assistance and direction. He says they could also help make sure that elderly and physically challenged residents are okay during snowstorms or other emergencies.
The Advisory Board will help the Auxiliary volunteers in determining which of these ideas they’ll pursue. The board will hold their first meeting March 29th at 7pm in Marlinton Municipal building.
