Deadline For New River LPN Program Is November 5th

Summersville, Wv – The deadline to apply for admission to the New River Community and Technical College School of Practical Nursing is Friday, Nov. 5. Students accepted into the program will begin their studies in the fall semester of 2011.

The program, based on New River CTC’s campus in Summersville, has a cohort in Pocahontas County. The program was recently reaccredited for three years by the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Licensed Practical Nurses.

New River CTC offers a one year certificate program to prepare students to be an LPN. The course of study provides both classroom theory and practical experience in a variety of settings. Many of the classes are taught using the Interactive Video Network, so students in Pocahontas may not have to travel far from home. This course can also serve as a bridge to higher certificates of learning the medical profession.

Graduates of the New River program are eligible to take the National Council License Exam for Practical Nurses. Successful completion of the exam allows the graduate to seek licensure as a practical nurse. According to a press release from New River CTC, their graduates have an excellent track record of passing this exam.

Students interested in being part of the Pocahontas cohort can contact program coordinator Mary Walkup at 304-799-4546 for more information.
