20th Annual Sheepdog Trials In Bath County This Weekend
Williamsville, Va – The 20th Highland Sheepdog Trial is coming up on Saturday and Sunday. Donald McCaig is holding the trial at his farm near Williamsville. Sheepdog trials are open to any breed of dog, with or without registration. But most dogs that compete are border collies. The Highland Sheepdog trial is a difficult test during which neither the handler nor the dog can touch the sheep. And each dog has to complete its run in twelve minutes.
Proceeds from the Highland Sheepdog trial will benefit the 2010 Virginia National Sheepdog Finals. McCaig expects to have 40 to 50 dogs competing each day with handlers from Georgia, Pennsylvania and all around Virginia. A few local handlers will be there too.
The 20th Highland Sheepdog Trial is Saturday and Sunday September 4 and 5 from 7am until 3pm each day. It will be held at the McCaig Farm, 2 miles east of Williamsville on Route 614, which is the Headwaters Willamsville Road. Admission is $6 per carload. Lunch will be available and please remember to bring lawn chairs.
