POCAHONTAS COUNTY SCHOOLS

The Pocahontas County Warriors boys’ varsity basketball team hosted East Hardy Tuesday night December 30th losing 92-43 dropping their record to 0-2.

HIGHLAND COUNTY SCHOOLS

BATH COUNTY SCHOOLS

The Bath County Chargers boys’ varsity and JV basketball teams went on the road to face Meadow Bridge WV on Tuesday December 30th with the Chargers varsity losing 64-38 and the Chargers JV team losing 45-33, both dropping their records to 0-2. Luke Turner led Bath’s varsity with 15 points, Nate Turner scored 11, Miguel Rosado and Cade Perdue added five points each and Michael Keyes had two. Rosado led Bath’s JV team with nine points, Tommy Burke added eight, Akio Long had five, Jeffrey Hamilton and Keyes scored four apiece and Parker Cauley chipped in with three points.

On Monday, December 29th, the Chargers girls’ varsity basketball team participated in the Ram Hardwood Classic at Strasburg High School, where they were defeated by Rappahannock 47-32, bringing their season record to 3-4. Addie Lockridge scored 10 points to lead the Chargers, while Trinity Forbes contributed nine points, Bre Mabe added eight, Ryleigh Phillips scored three, and Cassie Thompson chipped in two points.

TURNING TO AREA COLLEGES

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA

The University of Virginia Cavaliers #19 ranked men’s football team faced the #25 Missouri Tigers in the Gator Bowl on December 27th winning 13-7, ending their season with a school record of 11-3. Chandler Morris completed 25-of-38 passes for 198 yards and Harrison Waylee rushed for 68 yards on 20 attempts plus scored a rushing touchdown to lead the Cavaliers.

The women’s basketball team hosted SMU on December 29th winning 76-52, boosting their record to 10-3. The Cavaliers were led by Kymora Johnson who scored 17 points. Caitlin Weimar added 13 points and 12 rebounds while Sa’Myah Smith had nine points and 15 rebounds.

WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY

JAMES MADISON UNIVERSITY

The James Madison Dukes men’s basketball team were defeated by #18 Arkansas 103-74 on December 29th, dropping their record to 7-7. Bradley Douglas led JMU with 19 points.

While he did not grow up here, he spent as much time as possible on the family farm, and eventually moved to Highland to continue the tradition, which he still pursues with his cousin. Unfortunately, farming doesn’t pay all the bills, so he has previously taken other jobs to support his farming hobby, including pressman/writer for The Recorder, and Ag Projects Coordinator for The Highland Center.
