Hayfields State Park – August Events

Virginia’s newest state park, Hayfields State Park, located in Highland County, has a full slate of events for the month of August, including guided hikes, interactive classes, star-gazing, swimming and more.
Guided hikes include:
- Eagle’s Rest Hike on Saturday, August 15th, beginning at 9:00 am.
- Tree identification hikes on Saturday, August 8th and 29th, both beginning at 9:00 am.
- And Early Bird bird identification hikes on Tuesday August 11th and 18th, both beginning at 9:00 am.
Interactive classes include:
- Hands on History, which includes a game from the 1800s and the history of Hayfields on Saturday, August 8th and Sunday August 23rd, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
- Precious Pollinators on Saturday, August 29th, beginning at 2:00 pm.
- Remarkable Reptiles on Saturday August 15th, beginning at 2:00 pm.
- And Life at the Fort of the Mountain, where you can learn about pre-Revolutionary Highland, on Sunday, August 9th, from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
Other fun activities include:
- A Perseid Party, where you can gaze at the stars while watching for meteors Wednesday, August 12th, from 8:30 – 11:00 pm.
- Bullpasture River Snorkeling swims on Sunday, August 16th and 30th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm.
- And Roving Ranger searches, where you can find a ranger out and about in the park Friday August 14th and 28th starting at 4:00 pm.
