Allegheny Mountain String Project Hires New Teacher for Highland Students

For the past 14 years, Gretta Sandberg has held classes at The Highland Center as part of the Allegheny Mountain String Project. Her retirement this year created an opening for a new teacher and a qualified instructor has answered the call. An award winning cellist, Kelley Mikkelsen serves as Principal Cellist of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera Roanoke and

Opera on the James. She also performs regularly with the Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, and is cellist of the four-member eclectic chamber music group, the Cardinal Ensemble, in addition to her many varied free-lance opportunities throughout the region.

AMR met up for a phone interview with Mikkelsen to learn more about her excitement in coming to Highland County.
