American Red Cross Faces Blood Shortage

Over the past two decades, the number of people donating blood through the American Red Cross has dropped by nearly 40%. Various factors have contributed to this trend, including changes in community engagement, eligibility requirements, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gunner Cook, an account manager in donor recruitment for the American Red Cross, stopped by the WCHG Studio to discuss these challenges and how we can all help ensure a stable blood supply. Gunner also talked about some of the ways the American Red Cross is using their Blood Donor App and social media to try to reach a new generation of donors and dispelled some of the stigma associated with donating. We ask that you like and share this post to help inform more people about this situation.
