AMR Partners with MGW to Expand Internet Access with “Drive-in” Wifi Locations
According to a press release, MGW Telephone Co. Expands Internet Access with “Drive-in” Wi-Fi Locations.
In light of the impactful changes resulting from COVID-19, MGW has been working within the communities it serves to provide “Drive-in” Public Wi-Fi access locations for students and citizens at various locations throughout the region. With the recent revision of Virginia’s stay-at-home orders extending to June, MGW says access to internet connectivity is even more vital to the functioning of our communities as we navigate these unprecedented times. With the increased number of people tele-working and communicating with their medical providers remotely, as well as students continuing their education at home, the demand for internet connectivity has risen. MGW has partnered with Bath County Schools, McDowell’s Stonewall Ruritan Club, WCHG Radio station in Hot Springs, the Williamsville Community Center, and Mountain Grove Fire Department to establish these Drive-in Public Wi-Fi sites. The Wi-Fi service is active and available for immediate use. MGW is referring to this as “Drive-in” Public Wi-Fi because they ask that users remain in their vehicles while accessing the internet at these locations and respect all social distancing protocols. Once users park in one of the available parking spots at the Drive-in sites, they can search for the “MGW Free Wi-FI” network in the Wi-Fi settings of their device and select the network to connect to the internet. MGW is continuing to work with other community groups and leaders to get approval for additional Drive-in Wi-Fi locations that provide ample parking and viable connectivity for users. To see the list of current Drive-in Wi-Fi sites, visit www.mgwnet.com/driveinwifi. New Wi-Fi locations will be added to the MGW’s website as they become active. MGW would like to express their gratitude to the parking lot owners for allowing the community to use the space for Internet access.
