Bath Seniors Determined To Reach The West Coast This Year

Warm Springs, VA – The seniors at the Bath Senior Center have been walking across America this summer without leaving Warm Springs. Exercise is an important activity at the senior center and it continues throughout the winter months. Bath Senior Center Director Jeanne Apgar has an update on activities in September.

This will be out last month of doing our Walk Across America. Everyone has been given a pedometer and we keep track of our miles and we have walked across the United States and we’ve gotten as far as Nevada. And hopefully we’re going to in the next month get to the Pacific Ocean.

Our Walk Across America program is something I do in the summertime with our Senior Center. We go to the wellness center the other months of the year, but in the summer each participant is given a pedometer. We have a big map of the United States at our center and I keep track of everyone’s mileage that they walk each week.

We put it up on the map as we move along from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and see if we can get there. Everyone is hurrying along now because we’re really close. Last year we didn’t make it to the Pacific Ocean and this year we will.

At the end of this month we’ll be returning to the Wellness Center in Mitchelltown now and doing our Thursday exercises. So if you’re thinking about getting into exercising and you’re over 60 and you want to join us we’d love to have you, just give me a call at the center.

We’re closed Monday the 6th. On the 8th we’re having a shopping day to Covington. We usually have our Wii bowling set up most every day that we’re here. So if you’re interested in learning about Wii and giving it a whirl, come on and join us any day that we’re open for that.

On the 21st we’ll be leaving on our three day trip for Norfolk, Jamestown, Virginia Beach and Yorktown. And we will return on the 23rd in the evening. So the center will be closed those days.

We are open on Monday Wednesday and Thursday from 9 to 1 in Warm Springs. The phone number here is 540-839-5604.
