Batley grand larceny case goes to Grand Jury

Hot Springs, Va. –
At a preliminary hearing December 19 in Bath County General District Court, John “Jay” Batley waived his right to that hearing. His case will now be certified to the grand jury. A hearing has been scheduled in Bath County Circuit Court for January 22.

Batley, a former co-director at Camp Mont Shenandoah in Millboro, is charged with one felony count of grand larceny. He was arrested in mid October.

According to Virginia State Police Special Agent Allen Brown, the charge involves some Camp Mont Shenandoah accounts that Batley used for personal expenses.

Camp Mont Shenandoah is a summer camp for girls that was founded in 1927. Batley became co-director there in 1996.
