Breaking the Stage: Jeannette Fang on Garth Newel’s Pub Series

What happens when you take a world-class piano quartet, remove the stage, surround them with an audience, and throw in pub fare? Garth Newel’s Pub Series is redefining the classical music experience, blending live performance with community, conversation,  art and even a little sangria. Pianist Jeannette Fang joined me in the WCHG Studio to discuss the magic of breaking down barriers between performer and listener, the interplay of visual art and music, and the delicate balance between honoring tradition and pushing creative boundaries.

The Pub Series kicks off on February 1st with Sansuini, Sandwiches, and Sangria, featuring Robert Stuart’s artwork alongside Frederick Frahm’s Four Panels in a Gallery. February 8th brings Imagining Worlds with violinist Wanchi Huang performing a program spanning centuries, from Bach to contemporary American composers. Finally, February 15th closes the series with Elfman, Enchiladas, and El Espolon, as Danny Elfman’s cinematic piano quartet takes center stage, followed by the monumental Piano Quartet by Pēteris Vasks
