Since 2002, the Highland Center YEP program has provided summer jobs for teens in Highland County. Along with a paycheck and invaluable job experience, they also learn about getting to work on time, treating others with respect and taking initiative.

The West Virginia Dept of Environmental Protection has proposed tighter restrictions on wastewater treatment plants in order to stem algae blooms on the Greenbrier River. But the Marlinton Town Council says they don’t have the funds to upgrade the town’s facilities to meet the phosphorus limits as required by the WV DEP.

Town of Hillsboro attorney Gene Simmons says that after an extensive search of Pocahontas County’s court records, Hillsboro property titles and town records, he could find no official changes to the boundaries that were laid out at the town’s founding in 1886.
