Two of the three Highland County Supervisors vote to approve a zoning change for land in Monterey from residential to business. The change was made at the request of businessman Kevin Thornsbury, who hopes to bring economic development to the town.

Federal stimulus funding may help the Pocahontas County Convention and Visitors Bureau get in to a new home in the not-too-distant future. Pocahontas County Commissioner Reta Griffith says the CVB is interested in applying for a share of the $832,000 in bonds available under the federal ARRA act.
