Harlan Whiting has served in the Pocahontas County Veterans Honor Corps for eight years. He is currently their rifle commander. He says that of the 900 veterans in Pocahontas County, only twenty serve in the volunteer Veterans Honor Corps. But he says those who do are happy to provide their fellow veterans the honor they are due.

County Emergency Serivces Director Melvin Martin says he always has two things on his mind: the Greenbrier River and the potential for a dangerous situation at Snowshoe.
