Celebrating 4H Week
4-H is America’s largest youth organization, with programs available in all 3,007 counties in the United States. In Highland and Bath Counties, 4H is a pilar to the success of many youth in the area, providing a variety of activities. 4-H programs are based on the idea of “learning by doing” and provide youth with opportunities to learn through experience. In addition, 4-H provides opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills through activities like organizing and running meetings, working on committees, and taking on more responsibility as they grow.
I recently had the opportunity to meet up with some youth and adults involved in 4H to hear about the programs in our local counties as we celebrate national 4H week and the start of a new year with 4H. Here’s Extension Agent to 4-H Youth, Ben Hindman, volunteer Kristen Donnelly, and youth Draven Stidham-Witmore, Lauren Mason, and Cash Chambers to tell us more.
