Community Tiny Art Show Comes Back to Highland County Public Library

The Community Tiny Art Show is returning to the Highland County Public Library for 2024. The library invites artists of all ages from the Highland County community to participate in a “Tiny Art Show”. Artists will be provided a 3×3 inch canvas to create a piece of their choosing to have it showcased. These canvases can be picked up as a make-and-take and returned to the library, or participants can participate in one of several group meetings to create art.

On September 19, homeschoolers will have the opportunity to participate in a Tiny Art Workshop with all supplies provided, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.  The afterschool program will feature an opportunity for Tiny Art creation on the same day from 3:20 to 4:15 p.m., and then tweens and teens are welcomed to the library from 6 to 8 p.m. the evening of September 19 for a time to create and connect with friends.

The workshops round out on September 21, with infants and toddlers having their turn with a variety of art supplies for their Tiny Art Creations from 11 a.m. to noon. Then adults can join in the fun and create from 1 to 3 p.m. that same Saturday. Snacks are always provided for these workshops, and all events are free.

Any medium can be used for art displays, the piece just has to fit on the 3×3 canvas. Last year, many people did a collage that included a photo, while others did wool felting, or painted directly onto the canvas using oil, acrylic, or watercolor. There were also pen-and-ink drawings and a few junk journal entries.

This is not a judged competition, merely a collaborative art show. Pieces will be on display throughout the month of October, with an opening weekend show during Hands and Harvest Festival. To this end, the library is asking for all pieces to be returned for display by October 7.

Last year, many attending the annual book sale at the Highland County Public Library during Hands and Harvest festival requested to purchase the Tiny Art. So, this year, the library is offering a new option to donate your art piece for sale, with proceeds benefiting the library. If you would rather keep your art after the display period, it will be placed on a different table to show that it is not available for sale.

Stop by today to pick up your canvas, or mark your calendar for a workshop to collaborate and create with others. The October Community Tiny Art show is an event that you won’t want to miss being a part of!
