East Fork Industrial Park Clean Up Gets Gubernatorial Support

Charleston, WV – The East Fork Industrial Park Remediation project in northern Pocahontas County is one of nine state projects recommended by WV Governor Joe Manchin to the Appalachian Regional Commission.

Appalachian Regional Commission is a partnership of federal, state and local participants providing financial and technical assistance for economic development and infrastructure projects. The West Virginia Development Office administers the states ARC program.

The East Fork Industrial Park was once home to Howe’s Leather tannery in Frank. The remediation project, started in the late nineties, is in the final stage of the clean up. The ARC grant request is for $181,500.00. In their application, the Pocahontas County Commission says the area has a critical need for economic development infrastructure. They say completion of the project will convert a contaminated industrial site to a viable facility for generating economic growth in the area.

Other projects recommended include water projects in Wayne, Logan, Webster and Mingo counties, and projects in the WV Development office and Workforce West Virginia.
