FEMA denies individual assistance request

Charleston, W.Va. – “The Federal Emergency Management Agency denied Governor Earl Ray Tomblin’s request for individual assistance program help to 24 West Virginia counties. Individual assistance could provide loans and grants to homeowners who suffered property loss during the June 29 severe windstorm.

The governor said on Friday he plans to appeal FEMA’s decision and requested FEMA, West Virginia Homeland Security and emergency management officials to reassess storm damage.

“I strongly encourage all West Virginians, with storm-related damage to their homes and property, to report the damages to their local emergency management offices. Assessment teams will then travel throughout our communities and review all damage reported.”
