Full Moon Train to Bald Knob

This Sunday, the Cass Scenic Railroad State Park will offer a full moon train ride to Bald Knob. This 4 ½ hour trip travels over 11 miles, from the Cass depot to an elevation of about 4,700 feet. Since the ride goes up to one of the highest points in West Virginia, Event Programmer Monica Flemming says this evening ride makes passengers feel like they’re closer to the moon.

Like all train rides at Cass, the experience is a chance to travel back in time, learning about the area’s deep-rooted history of railroads. According to Flemming, the line from Cass to Bald Knob is the only 11 miles of logging railroad left in West Virginia. She explained that long before it became a State Park, the railroad was built by West Virginia Pulp & Paper Company.

The full moon train departs from the depot at 6:30pm on Sunday, August 10th. Ticket information and an event schedule can be found at the website, cassrailroad.com.
