Garth Newel Music Center Presents A Special Concert This Weekend

Warm Springs, VA – On Saturday, music students from the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology will perform at Garth Newel Music Center in Hot Springs. The evening’s concert is a special event to raise money for the school. Teresa Ling is one of the Artistic Directors at Garth Newel and the violinist of the Garth Newel Piano Quartet.

“An entire youth orchestra from Petersburg, Virginia is coming to Garth Newel this weekend,” says Ling. “And they’ll be at Garth Newel to get some coaching, some master classes with us and we’ll be doing a joint performance with them on Saturday evening. They’ll be playing Egmont Overture by Beethoven and we, along with guest artist Rick Faria, are going to be playing a few pieces.”

The concert is pay as you wish. All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund at the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School for the Arts and Technology. Following the concert, a light meal will be served. The meal is optional and the cost is $12. Reservations are required for the meal.

“We were invited to play at their school in Petersburg, Virginia last fall,” says Ling. “And we also had the opportunity to work with some of the kids and they’re an incredibly enthusiastic and dedicated bunch of young people. And it’s a school for arts and technology and so they’re really serious students and it’s a lot of fun working with them.”

The concert is very casual, come as you are. It gets underway at 6:30 on Saturday, March 31 at Garth Newel in Hot Springs.

“I hope that they enjoy themselves and learn something, hopefully,” says Ling. “We’re going to have a few events. There will be pizza and a movie and take them on a hike and also they’ll probably spend a little time in the Jefferson Pools. So we want them to really see what Bath County has to offer and all the beauty that there is here, but we also are really looking forward to really spending time and working with them.”
