Get Ready To Tee Off During The Annual BCHS Golf Tourney

Hot Springs, Va – Leave the thoughts of cold weather behind and get ready to tee off. The annual Achievement Boosters Club golf tournament is coming up on April 30. Roy Burns is the President of the Achievement Boosters Club at Bath County High School.

“Every year we try to award at least seven scholarships” says Burns. “Each scholarship is $750.00 and this is the only fundraiser we do throughout the year to raise that money.”

The Achievement Boosters Club rewards and compliments achievement in and out of the classroom for all students at Bath County High School. The club offers rewards and support to both students and teachers.

“We hold reward parties every time there’s a grading period for the students that are on the honor roll; teacher recommended students” says Burns. “We have eighth grade orientation every year for the upcoming class. We also do our best to help out the teachers all that we can. We make meals for parent-teacher conferences for them and we do our best to make sure that the achievements of the kids, of the students of Bath County HS not only get rewarded, but that they have an opportunity to stand out.”

The Achievement Boosters Club is looking for businesses and individuals to help sponsor the golf tournament. Sponsorship opportunities are available for holes and for the reception after the tournament. And the club is always looking for donations and all the money raised from the tournament goes for the scholarships.

“Of course the golf outing is a lot of fun” says Burns, “everybody has a lot of camaraderie, a lot of fellowship, and it’s a lot of fun. But to see those students when they know that the financial burden is coming on them when they’re going to go to college; seeing them awarded that money, giving them that bit of hope that I’m going to get some help from our local community so that I can go out and make a difference.”

The Achievement Boosters Scholarship Golf Tournament is Saturday April 30 at the Lower Cascades golf course at The Homestead. Tee off is 11am and teams should arrive by 10am. A meal and a reception with raffles, door prizes and a 50/50 drawing will follow the tournament. If you sign up by April first, the cost is $260 for a four man team. After April first, it’s $280.

“I’d just like to thank everyone in advance for whatever help you can give us” says Burns. “I know times are tough, but for students going off to college, it’s going to be just a little bit tough, and we want to do all that we can to give them some help.”
