HCVFD End of Summer Bash Approaching
As the end of the summer approaches, so does the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department’s End of Summer Bash.
“I’m Crystal Waybright – I am with the Highland County Volunteer Fire Department, and I’m a lieutenant. We have around 20 members in the volunteer fire department. We run strictly on donations and fundraisers. We do not get paid for our services, and we do not charge for our services. Our donations go strictly toward our equipment and our fundraising goes toward that as well.”
“We are actually getting ready to have our End of Summer Fireman’s Bash. It is September 7th at 4:00 pm. We have a big raffle that has 43 prizes, nothing under $100 in value. We have guns, electronics, jewelry, cash prizes, and we have some outdoor equipment. We will also have a 50/50 raffle, Chinese raffle, silent auction – we play a card game, which will be giving away two different guns and a necklace and earring set that are diamonds. We will also have a lottery board, and this year we have added something new – it’s called the Chief One’s Table. It will have a bow, it will have a camera set, and we’ll also have a meat grinder. First winner will get to choose their prize.”
She spoke about ticket prices, and where you can find them.
“They are one ticket for $25.00 or five tickets for $100.00. If you have your ticket stub at the door, you get your meal for free., or you can pay $10.00 for a plate. We are having BBQ chicken and pork barbecue plus sides.
“You can get in touch with one of our volunteer fire department members. You can also get in touch with some of the ladies auxiliary members. We also have them in Fast Break in Monterey, Stonewall Grocery in McDowell, Bluegrass Mercantile – we also have them in Last Run Restaurant in Cass, Brightway Exxon in Monterey and Lightner’s Electrical in Monterey. We will have them for sale at the door as long as we have tickets.”
And for listeners who would like to become more involved with the fire department:
“If you would like to become a volunteer firefighter or a ladies auxiliary member, all you have to do is get in contact with myself or the Chief Elmer Waybright at 540-468-2269, or the president of the Ladies Auxiliary Ann Hise.”
