Highland County Board of Supervisors Name New Chairman and Vice-Chairman at January 2019 Meeting

The Highland County Board of Supervisors kicked off 2019 with their first meeting of the year on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.  The agenda consisted largely of a new organizational structure and county appointments.

Kevin Wagner was appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, and David Blanchard was appointed as the new Vice-Chairman.  In addition, the Board voted to continue having their regular meetings on the first Tuesday of each month and their work sessions on the third Wednesday of each month.  All meeting times for 2019 are scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at their current location at the Highland Modular Conference Center.

With Board organization out of the way, business moved forward to appointing and reappointing members to various organizations.  Upon recommendation from the Economic Development Authority, Marty Leech was appointed to the Tourism Council to fill a vacancy previously held by Tim Duff, with a term ending December 31, 2019.  Upon recommendation from the Recreation Commission, Mike Isles and Aaron King were reappointed for 3-year terms ending December 31, 2021.

Dean Beverage was reappointed to the Planning Commission for a 4-year term ending December 31, 2022.  Moving on, the Board asked the Town of Monterey for another recommendation than the one proposed to fill a 4-year term on the Planning Commission that will replace Ronald Wimer, whose term has expired.  The Board also approved to have a joint meeting with the Planning Commission on January 24th for two public hearings on a rezoning request and an amendment to a conditional use permit.
