Highland County EDA Awards Incentive Grants

The Highland County Economic Development Authority has awarded Incentive Grants to four Highland County businesses.  The total amount of the grant awards is $17,496.

There were nine applicants this year and the following received grants to support their businesses:

Cabin Critter Designs, Karen Milnes, was awarded $4,996 for materials, software, and equipment purchases for expansion.

Pearl’s Pizza, LLC, Michael Farrell, was awarded $2,500 for materials to complete a trailer project for the mobile brick oven.

Jenny Wren Gatherings, LLC, Jennifer Warner Cox, was awarded $5,000 for labor and materials to complete a gathering space, do build out of a kitchen, and remodel a bathroom.

Hiner Town Trout Fishing, Ruth and Carl Hiner, was awarded $5,000 for the purchase of a storage building and to run electric and water to the building.

The Highland County budget included $15,000 for the EDA Incentive Grants.   This year, the EDA requested an additional $2,500 for the grants in order to fund the top four applications.   The Board of Supervisors approved the additional $2,500, to come from the Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Program.

Bonnie Ralston is the Assistant Station Coordinator at WVLS and a Highland County news reporter. She began volunteering at Allegheny Mountain Radio in the fall of 2005. In 2006 she became an AMR employee and worked in Bath County for eight years as the WCHG Station Coordinator and then as the news reporter there. She began working in radio while in college and has stayed connected to radio, in one way or another, for more than thirty years. She grew up in Staunton, Virginia, while spending a lot of time on her family’s farm in Deerfield, Virginia. She enjoys spending time outside, watching old TV shows and movies and tending to her chickens.
