Highland County Library Annual Book Sale This Weekend During Hands And Harvest Festival

Monterey, VA – Come visit our Annual Used Book Sale this weekend, October 7-9. We’re working hard this week getting thousands and thousands of books ready for your shopping pleasure. We’ve sorted them into categories to make browsing easier. Hard cover books are still only $1.00 and paperbacks are 50 cents.

We also have DVDs, VHS videos, Audiobooks on CD and cassettes, music, puzzles, and games. All funds raised by the sale are used in the library’s operating budget to pay for things like electricity, heat, and staff salaries. Sale hours are Friday 9-6, Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 12-3. We encourage you to come out and support the library by buying lots of lots of books! Oh, and bring a friend!

Family Movie Night on Friday, October 21, will feature “Zookeeper” (PG) at 7:00 p.m. in the meeting room at the library. Come enjoy a free movie, popcorn, candy and drinks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

While this time of year may seem like a fallow period in terms of the library’s program offerings, we are very busy preparing for the book sale and fundraising. However, we’re also planning some computer classes and fun after school programs set to begin at the end of the month. We’ll have an exciting schedule of crafts, game days, and movies. We’ll kick it off with an after school movie on Friday, October 28th on the kid’s early release day. We’ll be showing Disney’s “Spooky Buddies” (PG) at 1:30 p.m.

It’s that time of year again, please donate! For your convenience we’ve added a new “Donate” button on our library web site. You can now use your credit card to make your donation through PayPal. Please help us to maintain all the good things we have going for you. You can also mail your contribution to P.O. Box 519, Monterey, VA 24465.

Do you have great ideas that could make this library even better? Because we can use you. We’ll be looking for two new board members to join our Library Board in January. If you’re interested in the library and would like to contribute your time and talent please let us know.

Come check out some great new books on our shelves! We have Lee Childs’ “The Affair,” Stuart Woods’ “Son of Stone,” J. D. Robb’s “New York to Dallas,” James Patterson’s “Kill Me If You Can,” Harlan Coben’s “Shelter,” Beverly Lewis’ “Mercy,” Anne Perry’s “Acceptable Loss,” Linda Howard’s “Prey,” Karen Kingsbury’s “Remember Tuesday Morning,” and Jackie Collins’ “Goddess of Vengeance.”
