Highland County Library Summer Art Show – Artist Susan Blanchard

Monterey, VA – The current art exhibit at the Highland Public Library in Monterey features four Highland County artists. One of those four featured artists is Susan Blanchard of Mill Gap. A latent talent for art was discovered after taking a drawing class under the tutelage of Ann Adams, editor of the Recorder newspaper.

Having studio space at the Highland Center among a group of artists has helped her to continue to learn and grow as an artist. Mrs. Blanchard talks about an additional benefit of working in the company of the other artists at the Highland center.

“Our group decided that we should try to paint in between [classes], it’s sort of a discipline to learn to keep on painting even when you don’t have a class” says Blanchard.

The group has displayed their work at various events around Highland County in recent years. Mrs. Blanchard has found a variety of subjects to paint and draw. In the current exhibit at the library her subjects included flowers, a barn, and a mountain lake. The exhibit featuring four Highland county artists will continue into August at the Highland Public library in Monterey.
