Highland County Relay For Life Is Saturday May 21st

Monterey, VA – Highland County’s Relay for Life fundraiser walk will take place this Saturday starting at 10 AM. Dorothy Stephenson is this year’s event chair. She talks about the theme of the event.

CUT 1: “We’ve been going with the theme of hometown people helping people tying into how we all help our neighbors and we’ve all been touched by cancer at one point or another” she says. “One of the biggest things I’ve been asking people this year is why do you relay’? The reason that I relay in is honor of my Aunt Doris, who suffered from pancreatic cancer two years ago.”

Ms. Stepenson says events including music by the Highland High School band and Relay Bingo are scheduled throughout the days activities. Six teams are involved in this year’s relay but anyone who wants to walk with them is welcome. There will also be plenty of room in the bleachers for folks who want to come and cheer on the walkers.

Contributions to the Relay for Life can be made until August 1, so if you miss the event this Saturday, you can still contribute. For more information about the Highland County Relay for Life you can contact the regional American Cancer Society office in Harrisonburg at 540-434-3360.
