Highland County Sheriff’s Office Welcome’s K-9 Unit Carly

The Highland County Sheriff’s office will soon have a new deputy in its ranks! Carly, a trained K9 officer will be joining the team after her handler Sargent Danny Hull completes a three-week training in North Carolina. Hull has been studying and preparing for Carly’s arrival for a while and is excited about this opportunity to further serve the Highland Community.

A yellow lab, Carly is trained to perform searches and help with evidence recovery. She will live and work with Hull and will be a fully deputized member of the Highland County Sheriff’s office. Here’s Sargent Hull with information about the training he is undergoing:

“Well she will be completely, fully trained. So I’ll go down there and then they’ll train me to be her handler… learning to work with her and bonding with her. She’ll be trained in narcotics detection and also man tracking… so if we had a lost hunter or something like that,” explained Hull.

Sheriff Bob Kelly applied for grants for a K9 unit, a drone, and two patrol cars this year. This grant pays for Carly to come to Highland County as well as training for her and Sargent Hull. This is the first K9 unit Highland County has had, so Kelly and the whole team at the Sheriff’s Office is excited about her presence.

“She’s going to get a badge, and be a deputy, we’re going to give her a call number, she’ll be 124. We’ll swear her in and she becomes one of us… one of the deputies,” said Kelly.

Carly will return from the three-week training with Sargent Hull and be ready to work. Allegheny Mountain Radio News will continue to check in on this developing story and hopes to be one of the first to interview Carly about her new position.
